Accidents Happen

Back in July towards the end of the month my Oldest had a fall due to a pine cone reaching up and grabbing his birthday bicycle tire. Due to said pine cone we ended up in the ER with a large cut belong his right knee that gave Sebastian light duty for three weeks until he was well mended and could have his stitches removed. This kiddo always goes above and beyond to help me with his siblings, housework, even during the paper route. So it throws everything into a crazy amount of chaos when I don't have my best helper to assist.

The beginning of October we had just gotten home from the kiddos therapy sessions, completed our grocery errands and had just started to clean up for lunch. Fox was helping with playing with the younger kids, Declan was setting up our story time for after lunch and the youngest three were playing on the floor while I was finishing the last few adjustments to our afternoon school schedule.

When Sebastian who was tidying the kitchen yelled out "Help, Mum! Help, I've cut myself."

Sadly I took his shocked tone as him joking around and told him to that it wasn't funny and I'd be there in just a minute.

No" Help, Mum, I cut myself help!"

As out of the corner of my eye in runs Sebastian into the Living room with free pouring blood running down his hand.

"Grab a towel Bash!'

"I can't find one."

The one on the oven grab it, apply pressure, Everyone put your shoes on....I have to change my pants, Fox help Que, Declan help Clementine. Link just a minute little buddy.

"But mom that towel is brand new we just got it."

"Perfect grab it put pressure...Keys...check"

"Load up"

Luckily we live roughly 5-10 minutes from the closest E.R. Which is perfect for birthing babies, straight freeway access. Side thought.

Checked in kiddos sat down and started watching friends, The episode where Ross finds out Chandler and Monica are together. SO the kiddos are sitting quietly, with minimal laughing and then we start the process of Getting Sebastian all fixed up.

Three hours later out we came Thumb intacted. Pour kiddo had just about finished all the dishes from breakfast and was trying to go the extra mile and Help me out by cleaning the knife I had used to cut our home made gluten free bread when the sponge slipped and through the sponge and straight throw his thumb he went.

Three hours and six stitches later Sebastian was lucky to have his thumb, we were free to go home and throw together a late lunch, read our family story and just enjoyed each other's company the rest of the evening.

Sebastian got to show his battle scar to my husband and to his enjoyment has been taken off dish duty until fully healed. Along with written schoolwork. Sadly for Fox he gets to step up and help with the dishes...No Knives for a while though, nothing with shape edges.

Having a big family we have our share of injuries, accidents happen, but we are truly blessed in even the smallest miracles of everyday. Even in the thick of worrying for Sebastian, and the best behavior of my little train of kiddos. I did enjoy hearing the Hospital staff goad on the polite and well behaved manor of my kiddos even though we were in a trauma situation.

It's days like this that even though I may feel like a horrible mother for having her kiddo help do chores or constantly gripping to my clan on their manors, sometimes I even feel as though I'm too hard on them. It's moments like this that I remember that I'm doing something right. To know that a family of 7 sat behind a waiting room door reading The Land of Stories, playing with little dragons, breastfed a almost six month old, and not one kiddo got in the way of the work of the nurses or doctor that help my biggest baby, to see the surprised faces of each who entered to slowly look in the room counting each precious little face and state they would never have know so many were in such a small space behind that door. Make me beam with pride. My efforts truly are showing, even though I may not always see them. Moments like this tells my mumma's heart I'm on the right track. After cleaning the bllod soaked kitchen floor we later joked that Sebastian wanted to decorate the kitchen early for Halloween. But no butcher shops here.

Accidents happen everyday, but it's not everyday my oldest lets his mum take care of him and spoil him with love. That just what I plan to do, My baby is on the mend.
